Red face Dead Stereo/CD Changer in 2000 Beetle

My factory installed radio, cassette, & 6 disc cd changer lost all power to the unit. Nothing happens when the on button is depressed. The anti-theft light does not luminate when the car is locked and the CD magazine will not eject from the changer. All other power items (windows, lights, instrument panel, a/c, hazard, defogger) work fine. I have checked the fuses and they seem to be ok but I can not figure out which ones are for the stereo. I was told that these fuses would be either a 15 or 20 amp. Has anyone else experienced this issue before. Thanks

Yes, mine did the exact same thing yours did. No particular reason why it did that I could tell, it just went dead, one fine day I fired up the car and the radio remained mute. I went through all the normal fuse hoops (you do know there's a 10amp fuse on the back of the radio, don't you? You need to pull the head out to check it, but there it is), and nothing helped. See:

No display on radio! Won't turn on!

I finally took it to my friends at Boardwalk Volkswagen in Richardson, TX, from where I've bought all my VWs (and will continue to do so), and they replaced the radio under warranty. They were a lit-tle bit snarky about it, though, since I had a Parrot Bluetooth unit installed (not by them) to accept and make cell calls through the factory radio, and they tried to blame that as the cause. But they must have realized that it had nothing to do with the radio going dead, since the Bluetooth unit performed flawlessly for months before the radio went dead, and they only mentioned it after they delivered the car with a no-charge invoice, not before they replaced it.

Good luck... keep us posted...
