Default '05 Monsooon- watts per channel?

How many watts per channel does the amp for the Monsoon system put out on an '05 New Beetle? I read in a previous archive that the system is 350w with 8 speakers. This is just over 40w per channel, but I assume that the power is not distributed equally, since two or the speakers are tweeters.

Bottom line: I am getting ready to replace the speakers in the front doors and the speakers in the rear. I just want to get speakers that match the RMS of the stock speakers as closely as possible.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

you dont need to worry about the RMS rating of speakers when you already have the amp.

the monsoon amp also houses the crossover, what split the low tones to the woofers and the high tones to the tweeters, so it will not be much of an upgrade unless you replace the whole amp.

to be honest the monsoon speakers are pretty decent. a way better route would be to get a decent sub and amp, and run some bass blockers on your front woofers. a sub+amp combo will run you less than replacing all your speakers, and youll get a way more dynamic system out of it.

if you do replace your speakers, the front can be replaced by anything, but the rear woofers are 2ohm from the factory. you can run a 4ohm woofer back there without hurting anything, but it will be 3db quieter (which is alot)

We wound up replacing the front/rear speakers with 4 Sony GT1625A speakers (see below, and Click here for details). We still have the stock head unit, amp, and wiring. The only things that were changed were to the speakers. The new speakers are 4 ohm, but my wife says that overall, the speakers sound much better than the stock speakers did, even before they died.
