Question about proper radio wiring
I have a 2001 TDI Beetle and about a year ago I installed an iPod2Car unit to my stock Monsoon tape cd changer radio. It has worked fine but since then, and maybe it is just a coincidence, my battery dies after a couple days of not starting it. Since it has been a daily driver, I never noticed this before but wonder if it is the way I connected the iPod2Car to the wiring connectors. This kit came with connectors and the only wires I had to splice in someplace was were 2 black -12v ground wires. What I did was splice them into the black ground wire that was on the cd changer connector that was no longer being used since that connector was unplugged and now the new iPod2Car connector connects to the rear of the radio. I left the original cd changer connector in there and just spliced the 2 iPod2Car black wires to the black wire on the now unused cd changer connector.
Is that an OK way to ground this iPod2Car or is that maybe why my battery now dies after a couple 2 to 3 days. This is a brand new battery just installed this summer so it is new.
So, please let me know if my grounding method is OK and if yes, any ideas on why my new battery drains so quick. I guess I can unplug the iPod2Car and see what happens. If I unplug the iPod2Car connecter and go back to the cd changer for now, is it OK to leave those w black wires I spliced into my original connector or will that drain things still.
