Default Aftermarket Headunit Swap

Ok...first of all, please excuse the newb factor. I'm replacing my 01 Beetle's older Rockford Fosgate deck with a new JVC headunit (KD-PDR30). I've seen several DIY's for replacing the factory headunit that incorporates some special tool from VW. I'm assuming I don't need this if I'm doing an aftermarket swap. Or do I? Which interior console pieces do I remove in order to do the swap? I just don't want to be taking my whole dash apart if I could have just released some magic button and pulled the unit out. Know what I mean?

I hope I didn't underestimate the work. I can always run it by Al & Ed's and see how much they would charge to do it. However, I don't want to throw money away if it only takes 15 minutes.

It's a lot easier to swap aftermarket stereos if the first one was put in correctly. You might need some type of key to get the stereo out but the ones that come with your new stereo should be able to do it. You will have to do a little wiring to switch out the adapter plugs to the new stereo but that should be the hardest part of all of this. You shouldn't need to take apart the dash at all to do this.
