Unhappy 2003 NB, Need help with stock stereo

I recently had to change my beetle's battery (it was in the garage for over a year).
Anyway, after the battery was switched, and the car was running fine, my stereo stopped working. It doesn't turn on at all. There is no display asking for the stereo code either.
It was a simple battery change.
any suggestions on what I should do?

It won't "ASK" for the code, but I think you need to enter the radio code. It was probably drained of juice and lost the code.

I forget the method used to enter the radio security code.

hmm, i remember my cabrio's radio stopped working once upon a time as well, but at that time a message of some sort came up implying i had to put in the radio code.

so I'll read through the book one more time to see if I missed something.
thanks!

The owners manual explains how to input the code. It's in there somewhere, I know.

From a thread back in 2005:

If it is stock, read on...
After you turn the radio on, it'll read "SAFE" on the dial, and then it will change to 1000. The code is four digits long. To change it from 1000, push the radio preset buttons to change the numbers to match the code. After the correct numbers are there, press and hold the DIN> button for a few seconds and the radio should start playing.

see that's the thing, when i press the "on" button, i get nothing on the dial.
even after seeing nothing, i proceeded to enter the code anyway, and still nothing.
i'm trying to do this on my own for now before I take it to a dealer heh.

Check post #2 for the fuse box map. Fuse #42 is for the radio. The radio itself has a fuse on the back of the headunit. You'll need to use the special anti-theft keys (that look like file folder ends) to release the head from the frame that holds it in place. The dealer can release the headunit for you. They shouldn't charge you for this. They can also give you the radio code if you don't have it. The 4-digit code can also be found on the label on the body just to the left of the spare tire...

wow, that's so funny, I checked the fuse box before checking the site.
well I had it checked after work and they are all working fine. So I guess I just have to take it to the dealer now.
Coould it be an electrical problem?

I parked my 2000 beetle Dec 28 and Dec 29 it refused to crank even with a jump. The garage down the street tested the battery and it came up DOA. It would not even take a charge so they replaced the battery. Everything works fine except the radio. The radio will not light up the fuse in #42 is ok. I am stumped. Please post what the stealership tells you.

Fixed mine today by pulling the head unit and replacing the fuse on the back of the unit. Hope that is all that is wrong with yours too.
