Default Monsoon HU in Non Monsoon Car

Hey there! I am looking at putting a monsoon factory HU with an in disc CD player in my 03 vert. The car doesn't have the monsoon system. Will this work? I would really love to have a CD player at the HU. Thanks!

I've been recently told here by knowledgeable members that this won't work properly. The monsoon HU has no internal amplifier, because the monsoon system comes with a separate one. Therefore, the sound quality will be really bad. So I'm holding out for a non-monsoon myself.

Interesting. Could I add the amplifier? I have seen a couple on ebay. Thanks!

it does work in jettas, cant see why it wouldnt work in beetles as well.

the monsoon HU does in fact have the same internal amp as the non monsoon HUs, as the monsoon amp is an inline amp that people confuse all the time.

in the G/Js the plugs on the radio changed in 02.5 and the radios were a bit of a hassle to get in, but even then a monsoon HU works in a non monsoon car. but this is not the case with the beetle. the only advantage the monsoon HU offers is the MID button. (or a cd player if you dont have one)

ive done monsoon in to a non monsoon car in a jetta
aftermarket HUs in to both monsoon and non monsoon cars, in jettas and bugs
and i just put my 04 monsoon mp3 cd player into a non monsoon 01 bug

all with no problems.

Default Works!

afinley is 100% right it worked in my wifes car perfect , i won a Monsoon unit on ebay , the seller included the vin number of the vehicle the unit came out of along with the seriel number which is also inscribed in the side of the unit , i went to a local VW dealer gave them the info i had and they gave me the radio code , for free, there is not supposed to be any kind of charge , that directly from 1 800 VW , and i do believe it is written inside the drivers manual somewhere also, goodluck!!!! afinley is the Man !!!

Question Monsoon HU in a non-Monsoon

I bought a Monsoon CD HU from eBay (inc Amp) and when i am plugging it on my non-Monsoon Beetle cabrio it doesn't look to switch on (no display "safe" message)... Is there a differentiation in the wiring harness? Thanks

ps my VW dealer said that will help me if i can get a VIN with a monsoon setup. Can someone help me on getting a VIN? thanks!
