Default AUX port

2002 Beetle– stock Monsoon stereo

I’ve installed an aux port adaptor to the CD changer port on the back of the stereo. Works great, no problem there.

What I want to do next is install a stereo headphone jack in the plastic panel that is just in front of the cup holders. The aux port adaptor has RCA outputs so I figured what I need is:

1/8" Stereo Panel-Mount Audio Jack

3.5mm Stereo to 2 RCA Y-Adapter Cable

…and then I figured on cutting the end off of the Y-adaptor cable and soldering it to the audio jack which I could then mount in that plastic panel. Simple enough, BUT!

There are three wires coming out of the Y-adaptor cable and three solder points on the audio jack – how the heck do I know which wire goes where!?

Any advice?

Yep just like that, but since the neither the wires or connectors are labeled - I still have the problem of knowing which one goes where.

Hey jbthompson.

Get one of these:

Precision Interface Electronics CD/Aux converter for VW

And one of these:

Datapro 3.5(f) panel-mount to RCA cable

For tools you need:

1) VW toolie gizmo for removing the stock radio
2) torx bits including a T7 for the ground screw
3) flat and phillips scredrivers
4) drill and 1/4 inch drill bit (hole for aux panel mount)

Once you have all that stuff

1) remove the radio
2) disconnect the CD changer connector (if you have one)
3) connect the cd/aux converter (including the ground screw)
4) find some place inside the dash to stuff the converter
5) figure out where you want the aux port
6) drill a hole for the aux port
7) connect your panel mount cable between the hole and adaptor
8) test that it all works
9) replace the radio and enjoy

Pardon my ignorance, but do you still retain CD changer functionality with that product?

The aux converter replaces the CD changer. You cant have both at the same time.
