Default i need advice

ok , i have a Turbo S with the monsoon ststem in it. i have a pair of infinity reference 6012I 2 way 6.5s. as i understand it the door speakers are just woofers, not mids or highsas well. would i benefit from changing the door speakers to the infinitys? what about putting the rear speakers in the door and the infinitys in the rear? i already have the speakers so i might as well install them, i just want to kno what will give me the beter sound. they are 180watt speakers tho. i dont think the monsoon amp puts that much out... if it doesnt then the infinity speakers wil probobly sound the same if not worse right? idk, i am so lost here...

Where are your tweets and mids, pillar or dash? Are you running the stock head unit? If you are running the stock unit I would suggest integrating an aftermarket with the monsoon system. You might be suprised what a difference to the system it makes.

Sound quality wise you won't benefit as the Monsoon amplifier has integrated crossovers for the matched speakers. The Infinity's likely came with their own 2-way passive crossover boxes?

That said... if you were/are really tech savy you could pull the leads off of the mid and tweets and attach them to the Infinity's and see how they sounded

its the turbo S so its an 8 speaker system. i in the doors, 2 in the back, and tweeters and mids in the dash. i have no real audio knowlege, hence why im asking for help.

An aftermarket head unit. It's arguably the weakest point in the Monsoon system's design. When you start messing with the speakers that have already been matched with the amplifier things get kind of sticky.

Well the stock Monsoon is already too loud for me to handle on full tilt. It does sound fairly good, and I know that it could be improved quite a bit. But for the trouble and fitment issues I'd rather keep what I have. Matt, keep your stock speakers and amp in place... Unless you really want to go to sound-offs and compete or feel the stock stuff isn't up to your standards. Then do your deck as sb_beetle says!
EDIT: I admit that under 100HZ the system sometimes lacks.....Punch.

As long as the Infinity drivers are reasonably efficient there is likely to be an improvement, I would suggest putting them in the doors, this way you will get a better idea as to whether or not they make any improvement.

If it sounds better to you, then you may want to add a set in the rear, the factory setup is full range I believe, I don't think there is a coil (passive crossover) on the woofers.

You will probably need to make up a spacer ring to mount to the door and then the speaker can be mounted to that, the factory speakers are kind of a formed assembly.

most speakers in a beetle wont produce alot of bass....so dont expect much. the doors and panels are wide open and dont provide a chamber or speaker box....basically you cant seperate the negative and positive wave.. the stock speakers will provide more bass then any speaker you replace it with. at least if you dont use an aftermarket amp. the stock amp will push somewhere in the area of 20-25 watts rms....dont pay attention to peak wattage...in fact if it doesnt say rms...dont pay attention to wattage ratings...they are all b.s.

diamond audio makes a great set of components...but then again without an enclosure even the best speaker will sound mediocre.(let me rephrase...they may sound crisp and clear..but will lack the bottom end you most likely yearn for) your best bet is to find a set of components that have a silk or neodymium tweeter that you like the sound of...the 6.5 just wont produce bass response youll be happy with. then add an aftermarket 10 or 12 inch sub in a vented box to the trunk..

jl is a great brand but youll pay for it

look into diamond audio, high end pioneer stuff(tsd series i think...the cones look like woven material)or mb quart...these are my 3 favorite speakers to install...just as good as the more popular brands...if not better....and you can get them cheaper.

ive heard and installed hertz speakers before...very high end...but very sensitive...in the sense that the mid range and tweeter can blow very easily if not run at the proper wattage levels. i can recommend them for a car that doesnt use speaker boxes...everything your paying extra for would be lost without proper enclosures and power....check into the diamond stuff....ull love it
