Default Adding an iPod to a 98 NB

I would like to play my iPod through my stereo in my 98 NB if it isn't a major undertaking. What is an easy way to do this? I've tried an AM transmitter in my MKV Jetta, but reception is LOUSY. I might try it again (as I already have the transmitter) with my stubby antenna that gets horrible reception as it might pull in the transmitter and not many stations. I know there are kits for my MKV Jetta, but iPods didn't exist back in 98 so I'm not sure how it would interface with my headunit. A new headunit is NOT an option. A USED later headunit may be an option (did they have aux ports?). Do they make tape-deck adapters for iPods? That seems silly, but having a tape deck seems silly too.

Any suggestions?

I have a tape adapter and it plugs right into the ipod. It seems to get the job done better than the AM transmitter ones. Plus, it was only $10 at kmart. I got jipped on my beetle, no 6 disc changer, so for now the tape deck adapter keeps me sane.

I have something like this that will be for sale soon, as soon as I pull it from the car. We went from factory deck to aftermarket so we no longer have a use for the factory ipod adapter.

Thing works like cake though, box plugs in where the factory CD changer is in the trunk. Run the 20 foot cable wherever you want it, plug in the ipod and it runs the ipod as if it were a CD changer. The cable charges the ipod at the same time... if you want I can post up the exact part in the next day or two. It is made by a different company than the link I posted, but I purchased it from the same guy (enfig.com).

OOPS! I have an FM transmitter, not an AM.

I may try the cassette thing, but that CD cable looks mighty slick.

it's a great addition.... not as good as our aftermarket setup (pioneer that displays information and functions like the ipod). But works great for the factory setup, we would have kept that setup if 3 of the 6 buttons hadn't broke on the factory deck. To get a decent factory replacement was going to cost more than I wanted to spend and gave me a chance to do the custom dash work with the new deck.
