Cool Just a little lost...

Well, let me start off by saying I just bought my '00 2.0 gas Beetle about three days ago- and I love it. Except one thing; I've been pampered with stereo systems. And this one, the CD changer isn't functioning. It reads and you can hear when the CD's change bays... but that is it. It is acting like I don't really have CD's in any of the bays and it isn't playing.
Here is my question.. is this just some form of wiring problem or is it now junk?

Regardless, I have a after-market stereo head unit that I removed from y previous vehicle... is it hard to transfer head units in them- wiring and installing without it looking strange?

I know, these questions will probably seem obvious... but as I said, I'm new to VW and I'd rather not mess anything up.

I'd check the connection to the CD changer, the plug is in the trunk under the carpet in the area of the changer. Sounds like the control from the HU is working, just not the sound.
From what I know, adapting an aftermarket headunit to work with the OEM CD changer is problematic.

the Scosch (?) dash kit is the most seamless. If your head unit flips down, make sure you get the kit with the notch on the bottom of it.

You'll probably have to order it from somewhere, as best buy and the other big guys carry this ugly kit that trys to emulate the knobs on your stock unit.

you'll need a wiring harness and an antenae adapter, and you're good to go.

oh, and look around for stuff about the "K-line" issue. otherwise you can't scan your car for trouble codes.

First thing I'd do was load the CD's facing the other way. Are these copied CD's or store bought?

Well, I gave up on the CD changer and put popped my old headunit in. It works fantastic, even if the huge wire box was a pain to fit. o.o
