Post Deck Install Questions

Hey guys,
The deck in my 99 beetle is not cutting it anymore and I'm going to probably go with a pioneer deck because of the ipod integration and the likes. My question is, does anyone know how to install it. I know about the harness and the amplified antenna adaptor but some guy at FS (Future shop in canada) told me that I have to cut the back of the dash for the install (I suspect he just wanted me to get the install done by them, which I'd rather do it myself). If you can give me any input on how to do it I would be very thankful! Thanks
(PS. I love my beetle)

that's a new one.

it's been a while since i installed by JVC CD player...getting the harness adapter and other wiring situated was a little wonky...not a ton of room behind the receiver, so i just had to be patient and take my time doing it (not my strong suit )

bought my head unit from Crutchfield. one big plus about buying from them----if you buy your system from them, they do give you install instructions (and tech help)...along with the wiring harness adapter, faceplate, and antenna adapter for your bug.

Default Thanks!

Thank you I have a feeling that the only reason they wanted me to get it "professionally installed" was because not only does it count as commission on 100% margin, but they get more money out of me. And with gas super expensive and my gf even more expensive. I'll keep the install for myself. Thanks again!

I'll post pics when I start taking the deck out. This is a first for me

Crutchfield.com is where it is at for buying decks. They'll sell you the deck and include all of the mounting hardware and adaptors for free, along with a killer installation manual specific to your car. I used them when I did an install in my RX-7 and I'll use them again when I get rid of my stupid stock tape deck in the Turbo S.

I've done a few new beetles when i used to work as a car audio installer and you don't need to cut the dash at all....when you wire the harness and connect the antenna adapter, just finesse them as far back in the dash and out of the way (or else you have the issue of the radio not going into the dash fully)...takes a little patience, but it is possible....
