Default Location of the CD changer cable/plug

Hello!

I have recently bought a 2004 New Beetle Cabriolet and I am going to install a Ipod adapter by using the CD changer input.

I think I have read somewhere that there is supposed to be a preinstalled cable/plug in the armrest or in the trunk, but I can not find it.

Can anyone give some suggestions where to look?
(I have looked under the cover in the armrest, but can not see the plug...)

You might look for the plug-in under the center stereo area, feeling with your hand, or check in the glove compartment for the plug.

Good luck to you, and Congratulations to you for your NBC!

Are all NBC preinstalled with this cable/plug option from fabric?

On my 2004 I noticed a plug along the left side of the front passenger seat. It is white in color. Could this be it?

Well, I supposed a preinstalled cable for CD-shifter should be placed where it is suitable to install the CD-shifter...
In the trunk or inside the armrest... but then again, I can not find it so I do not actually know. I guess I have to contact my local VW dealer.

Mine is in the bottom of the armrest/center console. I hooked up a 6-CD changer to it.

if someone needs the cable in the trunk area i would be willing to pull mine for the right price (you price it from the dealer and let me know what they want and I will price competitively to that shipped)

I guess it was easy to spot? Maybe my 2004 NBC has not been equipped with this option

I suppose I have to remove the radio/CD unit and do the cabling my self... no problem, just time consuming

Actually, it wasn't that easy to spot, because the wire with the connector on it was pretty short. Does your car have a cassette player in the dash like mine?

Nope, I got the CD player.

I have had a pretty good look inside the armrest, but the cable just is not there.

Second, when i try to remove the radio/CD from the DIN/dash, it just goes half-way out. I suppose there are some tight wiring back there, but why do they make it look like impossible to remove the radio/CD deck? I just do not have the ba**s to use enough force I guess. I am afraid to break something.

(For the record, I have done this installation on my Audi A4 as well, and there where no troubles at all. The radio/CD deck was easily removed as it should be.... )

Sounds like you must have a 2004.5 NB Convertible...Mine is the earlier version (actually made in June of '03, but still an '04 model year).

I know that the ones like mine have the cable/connector for the CD changer because they don't have a CD player in the dash (just cassette), but yours obviously is different. Does anyone think it might have a connector in the trunk, like the rest of the NBs?

That wouldn't be too handy for your iPod, though.

Default CD Code

once you install a cd changer do you have to do anything with the set in the dash I heard you have to get a code from VW so that the set will pick up the changer. Am I right or is this a load of rubbish.

Not with mine...as soon as the connectors clicked together it was good to go. My changer is located in the console, as it's a 2004 convertible. It's controlled with the regular Monsoon radio controls on the dash.

Yeah, mine was a little hard to see, too. A couple of more inches of wire would have saved a lot of pain and contorting.

Default Can't find my cord

I have a NBC and would also like to install an IPod connector. I just looked under the center console and there's nothing there except for the power cord to the lighter/power behind the console (for which the cover just won't stay shut). Does anyone have another suggestion where it might be? I checked in the trunk and I do have an empty box where a 6 cd changer would have gone. Should I take that apart to look for a wire that might lead to the front?

Bought my 2004 NBC in June of 2004 so it's the one with the Monsoon radio and CD changer only--no cassette.

New on the forum. Thanks for all the help you can give.

The socket for the in-armrest CD changer on NBCs is under the black plastic insert. It's in there, just have to search for it.

The small "box" in the trunk is the Monsoon amp.
