Question Help Please! Wiring questions for a radio on a 1999

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone can help. I am installing an aftermarket deck in place of the factory radio in my 1999 Beetle. I found wiring diagrams online, but they do not match exactly with the wires on my car's harness. On the black plug (radio power) these are the 7 wires that exist.

I figured out what thes are for:
1) Yellow/Red stripe = switched 12V+
2) Grey/Light blue stripe = Illumination
3) Brown (thick wire) =Ground

These wires are the ones in question:
1) Red #1 (thick wire)
2) Red #2 (thick Wire)
3) Grey/White stripe
4) Brown/Red stripe

I have an adapter plug/harness, but I did not receive any instructions. If somebody could please help me identify the 4 wires in the lower list...........I would really appreciate it!

Also, a couple more questions:

1) There is a small blue plug with 8 small pins that plugs behind the radio. Any idea on what this is for??

2) My outside temperature gauge (above the rear view mirror) has stopped working. The purple illumination has also stopped working up there for both gauges (clock too). Does the radio connections have anything to do with this??

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks very much in advance!!

The small blue plug is for cd changer applications. Other than that, I dunno.... I bet you could find a wiring pattern in here if you search all day! Sorry, I don't have time to do it for you.

Have you looked on the actual wires? When I bought my kit, the wires actually what they were for on the wire itself.

Just my .02

Thanks to the both of you for the help! I got the stereo wired in, but the only thing left is the amplified antenna. I'm not sure which wire it is. I was told that grey/white stripe wire is the VAG-COM diagnostic wire (which I disabled).......so the brown/red stripe wire must be for the antenna?? That's the only one left.

As for my adapter..........the wire colors do not match the ones on the original harness.

Thanks again!
