The last half of my how-to talks about wiring.

In particular, can you safely tie in to the line level speakers at the rear of the car and input that line level to an external amplifier and sub?

In other words, is the stock head unit in a 99 GLS ohm stable enough to handle this extra load without burning anything up?

I have read about tapping into Monsoon systems. I have no idea whether the 99 GLS Beetle is a "Monsoon" system, but it does look and sound pretty good as is. Hate to see it removed for an aftermarket unit.

Surely someone has just tapped in and added a line level input amp and sub (in this case a single 12" amp and a 1000 watt single channel amplifier). I am curious if they had success with that?

I used line level outs...but at the unit...and I also have a Monsoon head unit - I wouldn't think there would be much difference.

"the mofo hits harder than mike tyson"

lmao!!!

Yes, that is exactly what I wanted to know. We shall leap into this adventure and see what 1000 watts and a 12" sub does. I think the factory stereo sounds GREAT and it will "hit" after adding the mod.

THANKS!

Okay - we are taking this way off topic, but yes. You are looking at multiple coats though.
This might be a better thread to discuss this on...
