Unhappy MTX Thunderform problem?

Let me start by saying hello I am new here. Secondly I don't own a new beetle, my girlfriend does. I own a 64 bug.

That said, I have been a car audio fan for quite some time. My girlfriend wanted a little extra bump to her stock 2002 Monsoon stereo system. Which already sounded great for a stock stereo.

I did some research for a box that wouldn't fill up her trunk and bought her a MTX Thunderform Bug10A-T45. This is the amplified and loaded version.

Anyhow, the stereo shop installed the sub/amp however there is little output from the sub. The gain and remote adjuster both work however when they are turned all the way up the bass is still very weak. We can barely hear the subwoofer over the stock monsoon speakers.
I don't think a sub/amp that costs $550 should sound this poor, even though it is only 200 watts

IF the stereo shop installed the line out converters (for the RCA cables) off the deck going to the amp would this be the problem? OR should they have installed the line out converters off the stock amp?

Any advise?

Hi and welcome
We like all sorts of beetle people, and I for one would love to have a peek at your '64 OB.
The one thing I can think of that might mess you up is the amplifier that already comes with the stock monsoon system.
Maybe an interaction with the new amplifier?
If not, at least I bumped your thread for some real audio gurus to see.

I did some digging around in the beetle yesterday.
The line out converters were not wired off the amplified speaker wires, they were wired off the back of the head unit.

I also downloaded the instructions for the MTX unit and it says to wire the line out converters at the rear speaker location (which would have the amplified signal from the monsoon amplifier).
That said I have read somewhere the some people wire the line out converters from behind the head unit (before the monsoon amplifier) and have not had any problems. The only problem we are having is the lack of bass.

Hope this new information helps find a potential conclusion.

Thanks.
Wayne

Wow! What a beast!
Did you mod it yourself? And why are you selling?

I would hate to get off topic, but I love my bug and don't mind talking about it

I prefer "built it myself" vs "mod" as you can't take a car that was made for 36hp and change it to handle 200+hp by doing bolt on's etc; nor take a car that was originally 16-18 seconds in the 1/4 mile to what this does.
Yes I did most of the work my self; all except having the NHRA 10 second legal roll cage welded in and having the 212hp on pump gas motor built (edit with NO turbo or supercharger). The only things stock and original are the pan and body.
The reason for selling? Way too much money put into it (more than double the asking price, the motor was $9k) and I have more important things to take care of at this point in my life.

Any other info on the bug let's pm each other as to keep on track with this thread. I am new here and don't want to aggrevate other readers or moderators.

Take care.
Wayne D.
