Question Aftermarket radio removal woes!

Hi guys, I am new to this forum. I have been browsing for a solution, but cannot find anything anywhere. I have an aftermarket radio in my 1998 NB that I want to replace. The thing is, that I am not the orignal owner of this beetle, and I don't have a clue on how to get the radio out. It is a simple tape player, and was installed with the schoshe adapter kit. My father and I were able to remove the face of the kit, and the two screws on either side of it. We were able to see the two very small rectangular holes in which you would (I assume) place the long tools to get the original radio out. WE fabricated our own ointy tools, and slid them in there, but to no avail, the radio refuses to come out.

This is where we need help. Is there anyway that you know of to get an aftermarket radio removed? We yanked, and pulled and even tried taking the entire dash apart. (We only succeded in getting the controls off by where the seat warmer contols are)

We have tried everything that we know of.

Sorry for such a long post, And thanks for any help you might offer in advance :-)

-Jordan

Sorry, I probably should have asked this too. What model?

I've been able to remove the factory radio using a smaller jigsaw blade. It should work in a pinch. You might have to fiddle around with it a bit as the retaining clips aren't always the same depending on the model, but if you apply enough pressure in the right direction and gently pull on the unit at the same time it should do the trick.

You can also download the specific manual from here:
Kenwood

Default Thanks

Thanks for the help, I will mess with it some more tommorow. My vents just decided that they won't change anymore, so now I have no more defrosting capabilities, I will get that fixed before I get the radio fixed.
