Default White noise when car/CD player is OFF...kills battery!!!

Ok, I installed an aftermarket CD player in a friends car last Christmas and she just called me and is having a VERY odd issue with the car.

She told me that when the CD player is off and the car is off (keys out of ignition) she hears white noise coming through the speakers.

Now, being a car audio guy I'm just baffled by the problem because as far as I know, if the CD player isn't sending a signal to the stock amp then it shouldn't be turned on.

So what's the deal? It's killing her battery so I need some help quick! Anyone else experience this?

If the car has a monsoon system, the amplifier's turn on lead must hav been connected to an always hot line instead of a switched line.

You said it yourself - the amp is getting an on signal from somewhere. Check your wiring, the signal wire should be connected to the amp signal output lead (if the head unit has one) or the power antenna lead.

Check the signal lead to the amp now, you probably have +12 VDC going to it, and that's your problem...

I can't really check my wiring because she lives about 3 hours from me

But, I'm SURE I wired everything right. I've done it a bunch of times (many eclipse headunits) and it's pretty standard procedure except for that one wire I had to clip so that the OBD2 scan tool wont get fried.

I should have also noted that I installed this system during last Christmas so it was fine up until now. This is one of the reasons I doubt my wiring was bad. It would have had a problem waaaaaaaay before now. Her car has sat for long periods of time before and it's always started up. Only now has the problem arose and started killing the battery.

In that case, I would look to the amp - sounds like the power relay (solid state or mechanical) is stuck / bad.

I know - hit it with a hammer - that will fix it...
