Cool Radio says "SAFE"

I went to turn on my radio and it said "SAFE" on the display screen. after about 30 seconds this appeared on the display screen "1000". I have a stock monsoon deck stock speakers all around, and a 10inch sub in the back. Does any one know what happend to it? It worked fine yesterday.

I think that means power was turned off to the unit and it has to be reset with the factory code.

I think when a car is new you get a card with the radio code on it included with the manual. On older cars they often go missing. In that case you'll need to pull the radio and the code should be located on the case somewhere.

If the radio is the original one in the car, just turn on the key and it should go out of SAFE mode without the code. Otherwise you need to find the code, it may be in the manual or sometimes on a sticker by the spare tire.

The radio is original to the car, I tried turning the car on and off, but that didnt work eigther.I am going to look by the spair tire when I go to lunch. Hopefully it will be there. The manual is at home so I wont be able to look at that until later.

Thanks for the help.

I didnt see any code back by the tire. On my way back to work I just thought that I would try my radio again to see if it would just turn on and it did. Weird. I guess this is another beetle'ism to add to my list.

Thanks for the help.
