Default 2 CD Changer Questions

I have a '00 bug with the factory radio and an aftermarket cd changer installed in the trunk using the VW provided cables in the back.

First question: Sometimes when I try to play a cd from the deck in the back the system will get stuck on the last cd and track it was on when it last worked and pretty much freeze up. If I turn the radio off and on and turn up the volume I can hear one second of the track the cd is stuck on and then it will cut out, so it seems to be talking to the device. Also if I leave one disk out it will recognize that the corresponding slot on the changer has no disk in it and will beep when I try to switch to that slot. This always seems to happen after I take it to the dealer for work but it will work for a while and then stop all of a sudden. Any thoughts?

Second question: The factory radio is starting to show its age and I want to swap it out with a new after market design, but would still like to have access to the cd changer in the back of the car. Is there a radio available that can be fitted or has the proper plug such that I don't have to do any rewiring to the car to make the new radio talk to the cd changer? If not I have another radio sitting around with a built in cd player that I will use instead, but it seems like a waste of the changer if I can't make it talk to the new unit I may install.
