Unhappy cd player dead--fuses keep blowing

we just bought a 2000 gls, and when we got it, the stereo was dead, i checked the fuse box, and both the stereo fuses were blown, when i put in the 25 amp hot fuse, it right away sparks and blows in my hand, and the 10 amp blows as soon as ignition power is sent...any ideas??

I mean, for real?

YOU HAVE A SHORT.

Find/fix the shorted-out wire before you go any further... before you burn your car up...

Start by tracing wires back from the load end to the accessory, this means every inch of wire. Pay close attention to junctions and wire pass-throughs, that's usually where you'll find compromised wire insulation. But until you do this, you can't even begin to think about replacing the fuses...

if it is an aftermarket radio more than likely someone botched the wiring behind the radio.
that would be the first place to start looking.

My Turbo S Beetle is the same way. I turned a corner and the stereo just shut off and it is an aftermarket radio, but one problem. How do you get it out. I bought it with the radio with the car and got it used.
