Any concerns besides K wire with installing aftermarket stereo?
So I purchased an HD Radio CD unit from Crutchfield and it came with all the wiring, brackets, etc. My son in law is coming by this weekend. He is a great mechanic who works on my beetle (2002 TDI w/Monsoon and rear CD changer).
We read through the thread here and will be sure to not hook up the K wire. He does have other concerns though.
"From a communication standpoint, other control units will be looking to communicate with the radio that isn't there anymore. I'm worried about the body computer, airbag control unit, and the hvac control unit they are the three that directly talk to the radio on a very regular basis...specifically the body computer."
I have read here that many of you have installed aftermarket cd players without problems.
Is it safe to tell my son-in-law mechanic to just go for it but put the K wire aside with some insulation on it (not hooked up) and everything else will be fine?
One other question - besides removing the magazine from the cd changer (which won't work anymore after taking out the oem head unit), do I need to do anything to get the head code so I can sell them to someone who wants a good working oem stereo?
