Default Here is how I installed my Aux cable

It should be noted that this method will not work if you use your trunk cd player, since it needs to plug into the CD port in the back of the OEM radio.
First things first. I bought a PIE aux. converter box
here: http://www.pie.net/pie_store/shopexd.asp?id=30&bc=no
This little box installs into the back of the OEM radio in the CD player spot. (if this doesn't make sense, just check out the link they explain everything)

So after I received the box I took it to a professional audio place to have it installed into the back of my radio, since I didn't have the tools to take out my radio myself. Now, after i got that installed and my radio back in its place, Time to install the RCA - 3.5mm cables so we can actually use it.

1. This is what your car should look like when we begin.

2. Pry off the two covers and unscrew the torx screws. There are two more on the bottom that you need to unscrew.

3. On my beetle I have a fake button beside the 4 way flasher button. I believe that if you have heated seats then this button is used for that. So take that button off - that's where our Aux cable will run from.

4. So carefully pull down the bottom portion of the dash and you will see that it is a lot of empty space, but in mine the PIE Auxillary box that I had installed is already there.

5. So now attach the RCA cable to the Aux box and kind of jam it in the corner so it doesn't rattle around and drive you crazy.

6. Now pull the cable through the open hole where your fake button was. (it should be coming out one space to the right in this picture)

7. Now put all the screws back in and the plastic covers back over the ends. leaving just the cable coming out of that fake button spot.

8. The good thing about this setup is that you can just tuck the wire in and place the button back on when you are not using it to make it look nice and tidy.

9. This is it in use, you can use it with anything that has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Here it just happens to be with my Sirius radio. To get audio through your system, just press CD on your OEM radio.

ENJOY!

Nice writeup! Just to clarify: the CD changer won't work after this conversion, right?

correct, the cd changer cable that runs from the trunk to the back of the radio would need to go to the same port that the aux needs to go in. so it is one or the other. Fortunately you can put all of your songs onto an mp3 player and use the aux to listen to it.

The Sirius isn't a permanent install. it can be moved from vehicle to vehicle.

an added tip for those that might need that switch location or don't like the look of the hole in that spot and the cable always being that visible, you could remove the useless accent light that barely shines on the cup holder area and run the cable out the bottom. If you don't have the light, drill a hole, it will never be visible on the underside of that switch panel and will clean up the install a lil.

Ya, that is a good tip. The only reason i did it my way is because i wanted to be able to tuck it all away and make it look like nothing ever happened when i went away on vacation and stuff. It just worked better for me. But i suppose whatever floats your boat right?

Wouldn't it be really easy to drill a hole in the little trim piece that you popped out, install a 3/16" headphone jack into it, and then just use a little jumper thing from your iPod to the jack?

That way there is just a little hole there, and you don't have to keep popping that thing in and out.

would be cake and only a few bucks at radio shack/etc. If you were gonna do that, I would do it on one of the side pieces, or the underside. Would be a clean install, and those side pieces pop off as well. So if you have something in that filler spot and wanted to do the above Idea, it would be done in the left or right side spot.
