Default How do I replace my stock CD Changer?

I have a 2000 Beetle with a stock 6-CD Changer in the trunk. It's dead, and VW is going to charge me $130 to put a new one in. I'm not taking my car anywhere else (bad experiences, no exceptions).

Is there anyway possible that I could do this myself? Keep in mind that I don't know ANYTHING about cars, but I've heard it's really simple. I've tried searching this forum for instructions, but all I see are directions for installing a changer into a 1998 Beetle that doesn't currently have one in it.

Help is appreciated!

Umm... Swapping CD changers is a no brainer. With some basic hand tools and you'll be done in 30 minutes max.

Sounds good. Is there somewhere where directions are listed, step by step, or is that something you could help me with?

I'm not a complete idiot, but as I said, I just don't know anything about cars or their parts.

Thanks!

Follow the DIY guide you said you found. It's not going to be any different.

what smg said. Turn your car off. Remove the key from the ignition. Unplug the changer from the harness. Unscrew the changer. Put the new changer in and acre down. Plug in the harness. Insert key and start car. Turn on radio and switch to cd. Enjoy.

By the way - remove the cdagazine before you start and switch the radio to radio - turn off radio.

It's extremely simple. There's only one plug going to the changer, just unplug that and plug it into the new one. I believe it's held down by two or three screws, they're Phillips-head. You would have to be a complete idiot to do it in thirty minutes ... it shouldn't take you more than five.
