Default Armrest CD changer issues

2003 TS -- So my armrest cd changer (which I love, no fishing in the trunk) is good most days, but sometimes will get a bit glitchy. It will play the cd, but it sounds like high pitched static/electronic noise overlaid that gets louder as the volume is turned up. Any ideas? I'm thinking that blowing it out probably wouldn't do anything since it is maybe a connection problem?

Any advice? Thanks guys!

As you suspect, could be a connection problem. Check connections both on the back side of the changer and on the back of your head unit. To remove the head unit, you need a set of little tools you can get for cheap, or if you have a nice dealership, they might just pull it out for you if you ask nicely.

If your connections are all good though, I would say the changer itself is going bad ... time to replace. You can get them for less than $100 on eBay.

I also want to know how to remove the stock head unit to enable me to fit a car phone kit that I used to have in my Mini but don't konw which type of radio keys to buy. I have looked on ebay but there appears to be several types for VW radios. Can you suggest which type? Also, to help me to follow some of the discussions here, what is the stock radio/cd unit called?
Thanks, Paul

I'm not sure how you would connect a car phone kit, so I can't advise you on that. For radio removal tools, you can find them on eBay, just search for ones that match the radio you have in your car. If you live near a dealership, they should pull the radio for free for you. I bought my set of tools from my dealership, they had them in stock, and sold the pair to me for like five dollars.

I guess I don't know what the stock head unit is called, I didn't know it had a name? Elaborate please?
