Default Is it possible to move CD Changer location?

HI I have a 2001 Bettle GLS, with a trunk mounted cod changer that was factory installed. Just curious is it possible to move this CD changer to the arm rest location? I currently have an armrest in that location, but it is not big enough to put a CD changer in it. I was curious if I could just remove the armrest and bolt the CD changer there or if I have to install a special armrest that is made for a cd changer.

Any insight would be great.

Thanks

You're not planning to reload the cartridge as you're driving down the road, right? 6 discs is a few hours of music--what's wrong with the trunk? Anyhew, IIRC the changer location was in the armrest for later models (the "big box" '04.5?) and NBCs. If you really want it there, there is a factory setup for it--don't know why you couldn't just route the trunk cable up there with an extension.

Starting in 2003 through 2005, you could mount the changer in the center console but it requires a new console and CD changer. There is one for sale in the classifieds if you want to attempt it. I believe it is grey and is not complete but you could get the rest of the parts to finish the job.

A cheaper solution would be to get another magazine and put additional music in it allowing you to quickly change the magazines at an appropriate time.

Another solution (if you have an ipod or other MP3 player) is get an FM transmitter and listen to your MP3 music over the radio.

Last but not least, change out your headunit for something that let's you play CDs in the dash and/or have an MP3 player plugged in. See www.crutchfield.com for many possible solutions.

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 suggestions if you choose to go this route:

1. Because the antenna is at the back of the car, plugging an FM transmitter at the front won't give you a very good signal. The way I used to do it was to plug the FM adaptor into the 12V socket in the trunk, and run an audio extension cable sneakily up to the front.

2. FM transmitters generally suck unless you go all out and spend a good chunk of change. There is an item (can't remember the name of it right now) that lets you change from having a CD changer to having an AUX in. I would recommend that.

Default oh yeah.......

you wrote:"FM transmitters generally suck unless you go all out and spend a good chunk of change"

Spend all you want and they still suck. Then add the fact the source data is MP3 and you might as well throw in the towel.
