Default OK; I screwed up!

I replaced the head unit in my wife's car and THEN she informs me that the armrest CD changer is full of her favorite CD's! Now, with no power to the changer, I can't eject the CD's! I was hoping that the black and yellow wires were the power wires, but I tried them to no avail. Taking it apart is a daunting task. Any other suggestions?

Usually there is a small hole that you can push a piece of wire (a paper clip works well) into and it will eject it.

yes, a CD player has an ejector hole, but this is a changer. And there is no easy way unfortuantely. Even with the top removed and the CD's in plain sight, they can't be removed without major dismantling. So I need to get power to it somehow so I can eject the CD's.

Sorry about that.
Maybe you can just make a couple of jumpers with alligator clips and run power from your fuse block.

The easiest thing to do would probably be to plug the factory radio back in.

The second easiest thing to do is to jump 12v into the blue cd changer plug in the dash to simulate the radio being plugged into it (the wiring diagram should be on a sticker on the radio itself to which wire is 12v and ground. But if you have the radio out of the dash, you might as well do option #1 anyway.

The head unit has been replaced. That harness is no longer connected to anything.

I would do either one of those if I hadn't spent four hours squeezing the new head unit in. I may yet still go that route, but it's the LAST thing I WANT to do!

Take it to a dealership, and see if they'll pull one changer out so you can plug yours in and eject the cd?

I did some research in my Bentley manual (mine is for 98-02 so if the colors don't match right, i can't really help you, but it's probably the same) I still definitely recommend everyone who work on their own cars to buying one, even though, I don't have a beetle anymore, I still use mine, a lot.

Here are the color wires and what they do, on what the Bentley calls a 12-pin connector on the cd changer plug at the cd changer, even though there are only 9 wires.

T12/1: Blue - DATA IN
T12/2: Yellow - CLOCK IN
T12/3: Brown - Ground (to chassis)
T12/4: Green - DATA OUT
T12/6: Red - Positive (B+ in), Terminal 30
T12/7: White - Line Out, Right
T12/8: Grey - Control signal, turn on
T12/9: Black - Ground (from radio)
T12/10: Lilac - Line Out, Left

I hope this helps, and was worth the 25 minutes it took me to find it.

Like i said in my first post, Just jump the positive with a +12v lead from somewhere with it plugged in and it should work. If not, jump the turn on signal too, but i don't think you'd have to.

I'm with this guy.... CD changer should already have power and everything else, what it is lacking is the turn on signal. Once you put that to the changer it should power on like it was connected to the stereo, and allow for eject function.

I connected red to 12+, brown and black to 12- and got nothing. I tried to jump 12+ to grey and dang near fried the terminal - DIRECT SHORT! Obviously the trigger is NOT 12+ !!

I don't know if it has the same plug as the in-trunk ones, but if it does, the next thing to do is what noR said and take it out and plug it into another vw.

I bet this happens often enough that the dealer has some sneaky way to take them out...

You could always offer the changer "for free" to anyone locally who would let you plug her in and pull out the CD's.
