Default Monsoon conversion in a 98?

I would like to convert to a Monsoon in my 98.

I have searched the threads, to no avail.

I assume it can be done, but how?

Does it just plug in?

Do I recode in VAG-COM (VCDS)

That all?

Where does the amp live?

Do I leave the stock speakers alone?

What is the magic?

I am being too stupid as it is simple or what?

Sorry I am noob to this aspect of the cars.

TIA,
Walt...

Well, honestly it is possible if you have the time and money.

But for the money, it would be better to upgrade to aftermarket speakers and amp (if you want to keep the stock head unit).

Monsoon replacement would require all speakers, plus the dash-mounted ones (which are integrated into the large panels by the windshield), plus the head unit, plus the amp (which is in the trunk), and possibly the wiring harness for the audio system as well. It's just too big of a project for not that much of an improvement in sound.

If you already had the car disassembled and found the parts cheap enough, well then it might be worth it.

x2

the only factor would be if you had ALL the monsoon parts already available for free, and enjoyed doing wiring. Other than that, aftermarket is the way to go (and will give you better sound quality and options).
