Need help with girlfriends speakers!

Okay so my girlfriend recently got a 2002 beetle with the 6 disk changer. Her speakers all seem to work except for the ones closest to the driver (in the door/in the pillar)

I'm going to be installing a new cd player soon because the 6 disk doesnt read any cds and she doesnt like the stock radio. I find it strange that they both arent working, is this a common problem in the new beetles? What would cause them to not work other then blowing? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

Does her car have Monsoon (speakers in the upper dash panels)? If so, then the A-pillar speakers are just grilles (as the Monsoon system is 8 speakers, two in each dash panel, one in each door, and one in each rear panel).

CD changer could need cleaned. When going to the changer, does it throw any error codes on the radio display?

I can't remember looking at the radio, but I'm pretty sure music was coming out from the A pillar on the passenger side but I'm not positive because I was in it the other day.

I hooked up the cd player I'm putting in and there was still no sound from the driver side. I didn't finish the install because I didn't know I'd need an adapter for the antenna and a torx screw driver (never worked on a vdub before)
