Default Ipod Battle.

This year, I bought my girlfriend an Ipod Touch for Christmas. I asked for a Zune. When she told me if we bought the Ipods from Best Buy we could get $50 gift cards for each purchase, I ended up getting an Ipod as well. Since I got the Ipod Touch, I've been trying to get it to play correctly with my Beetle. I've had friends with FM Transmitters that worked fine, so I thought it wouldn't be an issue. I paid $90 for this little dock from Circuit City. After two hours of static and crappy quality, I returned it.

After that, I bought this cheaper model for $50 at Target. Now while this one works 50% better, I have to crank up my stereo speakers, and some times it's a little spotty. I've bought a regular Itrip off of Ebay for $5.00. The way it's been going, the cheaper the better.

I did contact Best Buy and they told me the best and cheapest way to go was this. They said after they installed it (total for all being around $80) I would have clear and great audio quality.

Don't really have a question, just looking for any advice and input you guys could offer in your past adventures into the MP3 world.

Does your car have a cassette player? Buy a cassette adapter. That or you can try this

That is a great headunit with an even better price! Can't argue with you there. But using dollars, there are quit a few ones that are a bit cheaper by say... $100?

BTW, £225 = $320 for those using dollars.

My advice? Use a cassette adapter. They're great--cheap, consistent, and don't receive interference from large cities (I'm near NYC, so FM transmitters don't work well by me). The only downside is the wire sticking out of your tape deck and the sound the tapedeck itself makes. (Minimal if you have music playing. )

No cassette. Cd Only. I do have a CD Changer button though. Also, I like the look of a factory radio. For $180 I could buy the VW factory cable.

One thing I can't figure out is how everyone else's dock works better than mine.

Do you have the Aux Jack like the one at the start of this commercial? Its under the center console under where the heated seats would be.

That jack started in 2005!! If you have it, you only need a $6 plug from radio shack!! OOOOO GOOOOOOOD LUCK! That would be perfect!

I just walked out to the car and there is a hole under the dash where the commercial showed... I'd pretty pumped. Thanks for the info!

You're welcome! Now you just need to use that money you got back from your previous fm transmitter tobuy a cable to connect 3.5mm to 3.5mm. Similar to

That particular one is for sale here.

Glad I could brighten up that day at work!

That explains why this 1.8m cable I bought at Target doesn't work... ha ha

If not, I'll just return it and get my money back. When you use the cable you hit Aux or the CDP button correct?

That's right. My Creative Zen works pretty good with it just have to turn up the volume on the player.

I had a hard time hearing anything through my stereo and come to find out, my girlfriend had turned down my internal volume and locked it! Everything is working great with the 3.5mm cord!

A little update:

I bought a cheap retractable 3.5mm cord off of Ebay (returned the $20 I bought) and a cheap car ipod charger, plug them in and ran the cords between the bud vase and the side of the dash. After I get my rubber incase I ordered, I doubt it'll move. Works and looks good, IMHO. I'm excited. Thanks for all the help!

Hey Guys,

New in here and I am searching a way to make a connection with the sound system in my 2001 Beetle.

I bought it without the cd changer and it would be more easy for me to connect a iphone/ipod rather than buy a original cd changer.

Any tips ?

Much appreciate for the answers!

If you are already thinking about another CD Player, what about one that has the port built in it?

Nice, Costly Player

Cheap CD Player
