Default Maybe you can help with my radio problem?

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could help me or maybe has had this happen to them before. I have a 2.0 2003 Beetle. I love her. Haven't had many problems with her but today I was driving to work and I noticed my ipod turned off. Since I don't regularly charge it, I thought my ipod battery was just out. But then I looked at the radio and it said,"safe" on it. I pressed a button and "1000" popped up. So pretty much the radio locked up. I have not changed my battery recently, but I had a brake light changed yesterday but the hood was never opened. Well if that isn't weird enough the whole twenty minute drive I had no radio what so ever. So I attempted to retrieve the code from the spare compartment. Got the number, turned on the car, "safe" pops up but then "monsoon" pops up and the radio starts up again. So, I guess my problem is technically solved but my concern is could this have happened because of a loose wire or maybe a warning of something else that could happen? Or do you think this was just a one time thing? I have had my car for three years and not once did this happen. Thanks.

If the radio came with your car, it should enter the code automatically. It probably went into safe mode from the low battery

Make sure you check your car's battery connection. Over time, they could become loose and possibly even disconnect enough to throw off your electronics. This happened on my neighbor's Saturn Sc2. She almost bought a new battery for no reason. In the end, she just needed new battery contacts.

Oh, some NBs have the radio code in the trunk on a sticker with the engine codes. Some NBs have the code written in the Owner's Manual. If its not written in, contact your local VW dealer by phone and inform them they did not write it in when the manual says that it should have been done. If you're lucky, they will be caring and tell you to come in free of charge and recieve it for you. Just be sure to call first and be polite with it.

Thanks for the advice. I will check the battery. At least I know what to look for. Thank you both.
