Default Help with subwoofer, and headunit

i am going to get a new system for my 2000 beelte, and wondering how to wire a sub woofer to a aftermarket stereo on my beetle. I am going to get http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/hamburg_mp68.asp because its got a subwoofer controller on it. I was wondering how would i get a wire from the back of my car to the front stereo. i have no clue what i am doing, and would like to know how to do it, or if i should have someone wire it for me. I would like to know how to install it, i would use all the stock installed speakers. Thanks

From what you have said, you should probably have someone install it. You need an amp as well, so it's more than 1 wire that will need to be run to the boot.

Have a look in the Car Audio How-To section...I know this topic has been discussed. The firewall amp wire is definitely there.

Im doing the same thing that you are donig right now. Pay for profesionals to do it. I know what I am doing and it took me FOREVER to put the amp wire through the firewall. You have to put the amp wire and the turn on wire down the driver side. Then you put the patch cables down the passenger side. I highly recomend that you have professionals do this.

You can run the turn on wire down either side..... Mine is being ran down pass side with the rca cables.

If you run your power wire near your sound transmission wires, you risk hearing the buzz of the power system. It is recommended you seperate the wires for these 2 tasks by as much distance as possible.

That's an old wives tale of car audio at this point.... everyone says that crap, but it doesn't happen. Now MAYBE with an amp powering vocal reproduction speakers (your mids and highs) you could hear it somewhat (I highly doubt it). Powering a sub you are going to hear now issues, and have no issues running them down the same side (except saved time).

In my response to the turn on lead.... the turn on lead is carrying no more power than any other wire in your car (which your RCAs will pass over and run next to). The turn on lead is of similar gauge as to wires used in standard wiring harnesses. The power wire is larger thus possibly giving some interference more than a turn on lead or the wiring already in the car. In general though I have run RCA/turn on/power all down the same side in multiple vehicles with no ill effects on quality.

The issues with SQ may have been true back in the early days of car audio where the wires may not have been shielded as well. But in modern day car audio, this is as false as the people who think you have to buy the most expensive wires for your car audio to sound good. There are always lines of levels of sound quality, but in general, we are not talking competition system here and with decent modern cables the levels of SQ interference are pretty much non existent. You will see more problems from your selection of deck and media than you are gonna see from running your RCAs next to your power wire.

In the Car Audio How-To section there's a pdf file with pictures telling you how you could do the wiring. It takes some time but if you have your aftermarket radio installed by someone you can do the rest easily.
