Newer model year radio in a '01 NB
The wife wants a new stock radio to replace the aftermarket she has now. She wants the am/fm cd player(not 6 disc changer)non monsoon, non satellite head unit which is in later year models. Will it fit and also she called a dealer today and they said they would only sell us the unit that corresponds to our VIN. Has anybody else had this response from a dealer. Thanks in advance for your response.

It'll fit. The dealer sells only VIN-specific parts, specially with electronics, just as a CYA in case it doesn't work (no "well it wasn't for your MY" arguments).
Try eBay, classifieds, Vortex, etc. They do exist.
