Default Help! Can I fix this?

So I got my new NB, Sweet Pea, today and all was well. She's not perfect and it didn't bother me until my mom looked in the back seat and saw this:

So can I just get a new speaker cover for this then? If so, what part number is that, or what is it called? I'm pretty upset about this, whoever had this car before did not take good care of it.

That's an aftermarket speaker so you'd have to track down who makes them to see if they sell replacement parts. It looks like it's missing some screws too.

It might be easier to buy a new pair of good speakers (especially if those are crappy ones) and mount then the way you want.

Yeah the person who had this car before took the stereo and I guess the speaker covers with them, but left the 6-CD changer in the trunk.

I'm probably going to invest in some beetle original speakers.

Make a post on VWVortex for OEM speakers. People are parting out cars and/or upgrading the speakers. Know the part numbers. The might even be the same part numbers as stock Jetta /Golf/R32's.

Don't be like Congress and just throw money at something and hope it works.

A) It's installed wrong (it should be behind the trim panel)
B) As you noticed, again, installed wrong (no speaker grille)
C) Normally the grille is part of the trim panel.

well first thing is first you got to get rid of the road master speakers they dont do squat and you can invest in some original bettle speakers but you can get something like pioneers and they will work better trust me they sound better too than the beetle ones. you would be saving yourself the trouble and they aren't that bad in price their only like 40 bucks or so a set.

So, could I just purchase the speaker grilles or are they part of that whole panel..?

Bleh. I'm headed up to the dealer tomorrow to see if they have speakers and a new stereo. I just want those darn holes covered!

The dealer I bought it from tried to install another NB cassette player, but it's permanently stuck in the all too magical 'safe mode', no matter how many times I put in the darn code that's written in sharpie marker on the top of the radio it won't go back.

If you buy new speakers of the right size, they'll come with new grilles, and mounting hardware.
Pioneer, Kenwwod, JBL, Alpine are all okay.
Just take the speaker you have pictured to a car audio place and ask them for a set of one of the above brands and make sure the grilles are included.

When looking at those speakers I would say grills made to fit those speakers aren't going to cover the damaged area. They will cover the speaker but not everything else.

If you really want to fix it, I would suggest investing in new rear panels first, then in speakers later.

Also, I would take the car to a mechanic.... if it wasn't looked over to the point that you didn't notice that before the purchase, I would say having a quality VW mechanic look at it would be a good bet before you spend any time and money into worrying about the way the back seat looks. Too many things can go wrong with an improperly cared for VW, even if it was bought from a dealer.

The previous owner cut the OEM grills out of the side panel. The stock grills were molded right into the panel. You might be able to find replacements for the panels in the parts section here or on vortex. Sounds like the previous owner had an aftermarket system (non-OEM and non-Monsoon)?

If the dealer tried to put a Monsoon deck in a non-Monsoon system (amplifier and extra speakers) the deck won't work no matter how many times you put in the code.

Yeah she's in the shop for the week, needs a new fuel filter and I'm getting it checked over again even though it was just inspected. The car was running fine, but I had a random check engine light come on so I took it in just to be safe.

As far as the stereo/speakers go I'm going to invest in new rear panels as everyone has mentioned and new speakers. I just need to get the engine stuff outta the way first.

How can I tell if the new radio I'm trying to make work is monsoon or not? Would there be a noticable difference?

I'm not real savy on this audio stuff.

The Monsoon radio has two speakers on the dash and I don't think yours has those after I looked at the pic of the interior on Sweet Pea's thread. The Monsoon radio also says "Monsoon" on it.

Ah okay. Yeah I figured I didn't have a monsoon sound system but I wasn't sure how to tell if the radio I'm trying to put in is monsoon. I don't believe it is. No idea why it won't work.

Don't forget depending on mileage.... timing belt, water pump, etc. Also make sure they check the color on the coolant.

if it were me i would get rid of the speakers that are there for one. but i probably wouldnt waste time or money replacing that piece. it will be a pain to find them and even more to get matching ones. i would get oem speakers and then just buy universal grills like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-5-S...5fInstallation

and paint them tan to match the back. low cost and if you do it right and pick out the right match for paint no one will even notice unless there is a red speaker behind it in a green car.

Called the dealership today and they said they'll only charge me 16 bucks for new grilles, but of course because I need cream they have to be special ordered.

They wanted 90 for the speakers, so I'm going to do some searching around and see if I can find some quality speakers for a cheaper price. If my radio was working [I cannot, for the life of me, get it out of safe mode. ] I would test the current speakers and see if they're decent quality. But I think they're mounted wrong so I'm probably just going to get them out of there.

Car came back from the shop just fine. Just needed a hose replaced due to a slight crack. Check engine light is gone now.

Did you buy the car from the dealer with the radio in Safe mode? If so, they should fix it. If you didn't buy it from a dealer, you need to get the correct code. It is possible the code has been entered too many times and the radio is locked up. You may need to just pony up the money to get the radio unlocked and get the correct code. If you have the manual, the code may be in there or on a sticker under the mat by the spare tire. The manual describes exactly how to enter the code. There is a user named Kaiser that may be able to get the code for you.

I bought the car with the radio in safe mode. The dealer wasn't too VW savy, so he just had the code but didn't quite know how to enter it. My mom's passat goes into safe mode here and there, so we figured as long as we had the code we could fix it.

The radio belonged to an '02 beetle, my car is an '00.

We called the dealership today and he suggested we try holding down the 'scan' button along with the right seek button [">"] instead of just the right seek button as we were doing before.

I'm entering the numbers, 1450, and pressing the right seek button, locks it up. If I press the 'scan' and right seek button it does absolutely nothing.

I am going completely bonkers. I'm to the point of wanting to throw this stereo into the road and smashing it with a bat.

I'm going to try my hardest to get to the dealership tomorrow and have them mess around with it, see if I'm using the right code by looking up the radio's number, and if all that fails it's going to cost me 40 bucks for a new radio. He said he'd help with the entering/finding of the code for free though.
