Has anyone installed an ammeter for their stereo? I got a meter and a shunt (200A) in but the instructions are not clear for connection to an amp.

Are you trying to see how much power the radio is drawing from the battery?

What are you trying to do?

I am wanting to now how much current I am pulling for my sub amp currently, then later I am going to upgrade the power cable to 0AWG and would like to know what the difference is. Also how hard I am pushing my alt, and for show purposes.

I had a RF bd1000Pro running at 1ohm with 2AWG power cables. I have since replaced it with a RF T10001bd at 1ohm load and on the same 2AWG power cables.

Oh, you are looking on the Power in as in DC Power. You want to measure how many amps the amplifier is drawing from the battery. That has to be installed in series on the Positive side. This link may help you. It will also explain what the purpose of the shunt is and how it works. I hope this helps.

That is what I was thinking. I have not worked with shunts a lot so I was taking a cautious approach. I really do not want to have to buy new subs or another amp. The diagram I got with the meter was showing the shunt in parallel to the load and that did not seem right from what I remember from my AC/DC classes 10 years ago.
