2000 Beetle Stereo Draining Battery?
I'm pretty mechanical, but will admit I'm not the best at electronics. My wife's 2000 Beetle had a no-cranking issue last week, so I removed the battery to let it charge overnight. She doesn't drive it much, and I had to jump start it a few weeks ago but it restarted the next day without any issues. The next morning, after installing the battery that sat about 10 hours on a 2 amp trickle charger, and her helping me by holding the flashlight(Thanks), it cranked over like the battery was very weak. I didn't check the voltage, and we were both in a hurry, so she elected to take it in to a repair place that's worked on it before. They did some checks, and found that the factory stereo is draining the battery, even when the engine's turned off the stereo is still draining power. I have never heard of this before, so I thought I'd post this question. I did look to see if there were other issues like this, but couldn't find anything similar. I don't think she has Monsoon System, and she does have the CD Changer in the trunk that is factory.
Other than buying another system, what aftermarket systems work well, and match the blue lit dash lights she likes so well? if no blue matching lights, what would you rewcommend as a replacement? I'm checking Crutchfield's Site after typing this.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
