Hi People. The 06 New Beetle has a MP3 connection built in to the Monsoon system. VW will sell you a connecting cable for about $150.00. Does any one know if there is a generic cable available, like something from Radio Shack?

Driver gear has an ipod adapter for $148, not sure if this is the one you are talking about. It says that the kit mounts to the back of the radio and you store your ipod in the glovebox while controlling your music and ipod functions through your cars radio. It also charges your ipod. It isn't available until Feb. 2006. It also won't work if you have sat radio.

After you get the $5.00 connector, just choose CD Aux for the Mp3 player to work. I've found that I have to turn my iPod way up and the stereo volume way up also in order to get decent sound (maybe a cheap connector gives you equivalent sound!?). You can't control the Mp3 player via the stereo buttons either (at least I haven't been able to). But it's better than having to buy a third party stereo adapter to use your Mp3 player.

I have a 2006 NBC, and I used a 5 dollar cable to connect to my ipod (which is mounted atop the "bud vase" inside a ipod dock. I made an adapter that fits onto the bud vase and hotglued the ipod dock to it. Looks pretty cool. I will post pics if you guys want.
The $150 solution sounds cool (iPod in the glove box) but I wont be purchasing it...it just feels good to actually press the clickwheel on the ipod (which atop the budvase location is actually very convenient while driving...DONT LOOK AT THE iPOD OR YOU WILL SMACK UP YOUR BUG!! lol) its also very convenient to just slide the ipod out and into my pocket when I leave the bug. If anyone is interested, I will post the pictures of the budvase to ipod dock adapter, maybe I could make up a bunch more. I just routed it out of wood at work and spray painted it black... all you need is a hotglue gun to hotglue your ipod dock to it once youve slipped it onto your budvase (yes the hotglue comes off the dock should you remove it later) |

Thanks to your advice, I went out and bought a cable at Radio Shack today to hook up my Mp3 player. It's a Creative Zen Micro
The cable cost about $8. I tried it out and it works great! If I turn up the volume about half way on player, then I can adjust the volume with the stereo easily and it sounds pretty good. Anyway, for those of you who haven't got one yet, it's called an Audio Dubbing Cable Goldseries. Now I get to listen to music instead of commercials all the way to Irving for the TNBRU!!! YEA! Cori

Hey there. Glad you got your mp3 situation worked out. You can also get aftermarket radios that actually have a touch screen that will allow you to control your iPod just like you are used to, and it keeps the ipod in the glove box...fully charged and out of sight to thieves. I will be at TNBRU too, so I can show you mine (a Kenwood Exxcelon) when you get there. Have a safe trip!

Hi everybody from Mexico City. I'm new in this (I pick up my 2005 NW today!!!) but I'm trying to catch up with everything that can be known abut my new car...hope this will be helpful for everybody.
There is a new iPod interface from Blaupunkt that will use the blue plug on the back of Moozoon and non-Monzoon head units and will allow us to avoid expensive and complex installations based on CD Changers. Here are the specs in Blaupunkt.com iPod Interface You can get it on ebay or midwest electronics for 65-80 usd. http://www.midwestelectronics.com/product_info.php/products_id/254 I think is the best option for MP3 playback in our NBs. PD Only drawback is that this interface will only work with 3rd and 4th gen iPods Regards ![]() Last edited by maverav; 02-07-2006 at 01:42 PM.. |
