Question Standard Wiring with Infinity 6 1/2" component speakers?

I will be installing two pair of Infinity Ref 6 1/2" component speakers in my '99 TDI New Beetle (is 218,000 miles new?). For now, I will be using the factory Clarion non amplified radio. I won't receive the speakers for a few days and am trying to prep for the install. I have removed one door panel and one rear panel to see what to expect.

Can the factory wiring in the front door and the A pillar be used for the new woofer and tweeter? I noticed that when the front factory speaker is unplugged that the corresponding tweeter also stops working. I found that puzzling since the tweeters don't appear to be wired through the door speakers. There is some additional circuitry attached to the woofer mounting ring. I initially thought it might be the crossover for the tweeter, but no wires run from the door speaker back to the tweeter. Therefore, I suspect that circuitry is a part of the woofer design. Any insight would be appreciated.

Bottom line, can the existing wiring in my Bug be used for the new speakers?

Thanks,

That's really weird. I don't have my Bentley manual here right now, but I'm pretty sure that the front tweeter and woofer are fully parallel connected. The only part used for crossover is a small capacitor mounted on the tweeter. Otherwise it's just straight cables from the radio to the speaker.

You don't have acces to a multimeter to measure the cable connections?

You should be able to just connect your speakers to the factory wiring. If the set you are getting is a comp set then are you changing out the tweeter as well?
