Default I Pod accessory

I am going to get an adapter for my IPOD as soon as I can get out. I assume the only thing that will work is the cassette one. Is there only one type or kind? Anyone have any advise on a brand name? Thanks in advance!

Scott

There are a couple of adapters that plug directly into the back of your stereo, one of which is sold at the dealerships. The only downside is that they plug into the CD changer port - so it's either your IPOD or CD changer, not both.

As for the cassette adapter, I think Belkin maks decent stuff.

there's always the RF-type adapters made by griffin technologies and others...i've used two...one with a nano, another with iPod touch.

they work ok, and they're nice for traveling. if the FM band is crowded, it's sometimes hard to find an open frequency.

went to the "hard-wired" solution in the bug. much much better.

I use to have a Harman Kardon Drive system hooked into the back of the stereo on my last E36. It worked well for what it was but still not as nice as built-in setups.

I have had no real issues with my iTrip that connects thru the FM band. If you get the newest one thru Grig=ffin and it can program in 3 different fm stations for you to choose from AND it runs of the accessory jacks so you dont kill the charge on the iPod iteself, iTrip Auto SmartScan FM Transmitter and Car Charger for iPod @ Griffin Technology and its on sale for half price (thats what I get for not being patient)

I use an adapter that is put in the 2nd Volt access underneath the armrest (the front one is in use for my lit budvase).
I believe it's from Belkin and uses FM frequencies.
Sometimes no problems with the frequencies, other times alot of problems, but I like it

I have one that you plug the ipod into and it uses the radio, you can pick any station you want so it really helps when there is a strong enough signal near by to make some of the choices not work. But now I just hook my ipod right into my car since it has the USB jack n all. Actually I just realized, I haven't used it with my touch at all. I guess I'll have to get on that lol.

Hi Scott,

I have used the Monster Transmitter, which is one like Squee says, an fm transmitter, it plugs into the lighter outlet, it tells you where a clear fm channel is, and you tune the radio to that, and plug the other end into the mp3 player. My first one I bought for around $50.00 at Radio Shack, but I bought another one for my husband from Amazon for under $20.00. Just be sure to get the one with the connection that fits your player. What's great is it also works on playaways (prerecorded mp3 books you may be able to get at your library)

i've used a cpl of different fm transmitters. the first was the most expensive one they had at walmart (about 100 bucks) and the other was a cheaper one (30 bucks or so). either way, they didn't provide good enough sound and it was totally annoying when traveling. you'd have to find a different frequency because a radio station would come in and come out, interfering with the frequency for the ipod. i instead purchased a great headunit that's ipod ready (has a USB port)and provides amazing sound quality my hubby used an old cassette adapter for his ipod and it works pretty decent, better than the fm transmitter. lol.

Mine has the aux. jack built into the dash next to the glove box.
It has extremely low output. I will prolly hard wire an accessory or eventually get a new head unit.
The BestBuy store in St.Matthews has a selection of plug-ins for you to choose.

I have a Blitzsafe adapter for sale. Uses the CD changer port so it also charges the iPod as well. Works rather well.

Thanks Reenie and Squee! I think that is the type I will try. Someone has one of these and I am going to Chicago in a few weeks, so I am going to give that a try, before I buy one.

Again, thanks!!!!

If you get one that lets you pick any station you won't be dissapointed. well unless you get one that is really cheap and complete garbage, but that's a different story.

Ok Thanks to my best bud, Jonk, I now have an ipod player in my BUG! Here is the kind I have:
Vr3 MP3 Fm Modulator - Live Search Products

Now, it comes with the plug that connects the IPOD with the transmitter. I have a question for anyone who has used these. There is a USP port in the bottom. Anyone have any idea what thats for? It plays wonderful and I love it. gonna get one for my lady. Thanks Jonk!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you tell me where exactly in the back of the radio it plugs? I would gladly give up my cd changer for a place to use the IPOD!

I'm going to ressurect this 2 year old thread to get some opinions. My 6 disc changer is working, but sometimes it just cuts out, or skips a disc. The fact is, I have all my songs on my ipod now, and I love using it. I was thinking of getting the kind that plugs into the cassette player. Since Ernie is a 99, the player isn't a Monsoon, just VW stock. I have heard of one of the adapters that you can choose which channel you want to use so it won't fade in and out when you are driving. Can anyone give me some advice?
