Default Aftermarket stereo does the alarm LED still flash?

Looking for an answer from anyone who has installed an aftermarket stereo into their New Beetle. Does the alarm LED still flash with an aftermarket stereo installed? I just finished installing a Pioneer in my daughters 99 Beetle, the stereo works perfectly but when you arm the alarm I get the horn beep but the LED near the drivers door lock does not flash. I've read that there is a micro switch for the stereo that senses the presence of a stereo but I've had no luck fixing my situation even after numerous attempts to re-seat the stereo. If anyone has any suggestions/answers on this issue I'd appreciate any help. Regards.

Thanks Lnzbug, it helps to know that the LED is supposed to work. I'll have to dig around some more to see what I am missing. Thanks for your reply!

i have a kenwood headunit installed and the little blinking light continues to blink though, my alarm has never worked from the get-go. when i press panic nothing happens but the locking/unlocking mechanism does work. its the weirdest thing. when i accidentally locked my keys in the car and had pop-a-lock come out and open more door, the alarm went off. oh vw, you're so crazy!

OK, just in case someone else encounters a problem like this. It turned out that the connector in the door panel that attached to the door lock LED had one of the connector leads pushed out of the connector and therefore no contact was being made. Pushed the electrical lead back into the connector and problem solved.

Since lightning is so durn unpredicatable, for our purposes electricity still travels through wires. No wire, no travel, no work.
