i just bought 2 sets of mb quart premium.
MB Quart PVI 216 MB Quart PVI 216 (pvi216) 6-1/2" Component Systems Car Speakers Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix i actually bought them from amazon for 139.99 a pair. but that site has a much better page for it. anyways....just wondering if anyone has heard them yet... i know this is the first premium series of speakers from mbquart since they were taken over by maxxsonics. im hoping they are as good as previous german made mb quarts. but if not im hoping they are at least worth the 140 i paid. currently i have diamond audio m3 2 ways with a directional tweeter in the rear....which ive always liked...and a set of Eclipse SC6500 (Eclipse SC6500 6-1/2" Component Systems Car Speakers Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix). i really expected more from them...but ive found the midrange lacking and the tweeters overly bright. when i found the mb quarts for such a low price i figured i couldnt go wrong....being that they are 550 msrp a pair. anyways. if youve heard them...give me your feed back. i cant find any decent reviews on line.... |

ok...
so i guess no one has tried them out i put the rears in..however ill be redoing it in the next week as much as i like the diamond audio m3;s i had back there...these speakers are far superior...the large size of the tweeter allows for a more crisp and full range sound without getting too bright...they also have much better midbass...most speakers to me have an annoying midbass sound...to canny and tries to be too much like bass...these speakers have great mid bass and replicate sound so much better than just about any speaker ive ever heard...im hearing parts to songs that i didnt know existed before... one complaint is how soft the speaker itself is...when i screwed it in i could visibly see that the speaker frame was twisting...which created terrible playback... i did a loose install...and will go back in and reinstall when i return from vaca....im thining of making mdf rings so i can screw them down tightly to something solid...after all the tin in the rear panels of the beetle are quite flimsy...so ill mount the mdf ring to the tin...and then put in the speaker... aside from that i really like the speakers...they can mounted as a component or coaxial...either wya you still can use the crossover (which is enormous) but i like the setting of teh crossovers and the tweeter has control from 0 db adjustment to -5. which is really nice cause those back tweeters (which i have mounted as a coaxial set) are so close to the front seats... im looking forward to finishing the install... the tweeters are big so upfront ill probably have to cut the sail panels and lay them in...but it shoudl look nice. ill try to remember to take photos as i go. but even with a subpar install they easily surpass the diamonds and eclipse components i have installed in the front... cant wait to have the mb quart premiums all the way around... anyways...i think ill say to anyone that has a good amp and headunit to consider these speakers... in the beetle youll have to give some special care to the install...but given that drawback the sound seems as thou it will be well worth the time. especially when i bought them brand new at 140 a pair...280 total for a msrp of 1100... ill post when its all done... |

so i finally got around to do a better install...
i re installed the rear speakers by cutting out 3/4 inch mdf rings and attaching them to the original aluminum panels....again i had to be careful not to flex the rings....but once i got them in well the speakers easily mounted sound awesome. totally amazed at the full range spectrum sound. in the front i also used the 3/4 inch rings...i had a bit of trouble on the driver door when i tried to put the panel back on the door...the harness for the fuel door was in the way...so i had to move the ring slighlty down and foward... the crossovers are far superior to the eclipse crossovers...so much in fact that i havent installed the front mb quart tweeters yet...because im not sure how i want to do it...so im using the eclipse neodymium tweeters, and on the crossover (which adjusts down to -5 db for the tweeter) they sound so much better than before if you have the patience for a timely install you will be very happy with these speakers....im blown away by how great they sound... i also have a kenwood cd player with time correction adjustment. this adjustment helps greatly. and a four channel mtx amp. in the adjustment of the amp i cut the speakers out at 80 herts and lower. the subs will play those freq...but these speakers easily played down under 50 hertz...and did it very well... so if you give them a try...remember youll need to make some type of spacer...not because of the depth of the speakers really...but because of the size of the basket....the speakers basket is so big they dont fit in the average 6.5 inch hole. i didnt try them without an amp either...but i doubt youll get the full response without one. but by the far the best speaker ive heard personally. def worth the money...and worth the work and aggravation of the install... let me know if anyone else trys them out |
