Default installing speakers in dash?

Hello I'd love some input on installing speakers in the dash of a non-monsoon car. I want to keep it as stock looking as possible. Is there a good way to install speaker grills that makes it look just like a factory speaker? and is there a good way to mount speakers below the dash board without attaching it to the dash board itself? Or is it nor recommended to commence on such a task? thanks a bunch!

Go to a junk yard and find a bug with the monsoon dash...buy the two dash plates w/ speaker grills...replace yours with monsoon.

That's what I would do.

Hey thanks for the idea but I have a few questions on that. Would aftermarket speakers mount onto those dash pieces? I have 3 3/4 inch component speakers that I have installed in the door but I want them in the dash now because the tweeters in the dash are to far away from the woofer. thanks

Hey I still have questions on this, what size speakers fit on the panels and how are they fastened? Where can I get the panels? thanks!

Default NB Dash Mount Speaker

I'm having a similar problem to this thread, but mine is a bit different. The Beetle that I am working on has the Monsoon system, but the tweeters are starting to buzz quite a bit. I see that they are not standard size, and a guy from Crutchfield I was chatting with recommended a set to go in there.

Anyway, how does one remove the speaker grill and the speakers from the dash?

Any ridicule, taunting or general making fun of is greatly appreciated.

Ron

The speakers and grill is probably riveted in so if you just wanna replace the speakers I would take the dash pieces off which is not hard at all. I decided just to cut holes in my non-monsoon dash and mount speakers on the top because there's not much space underneath.

Sorry I never got back to this thread.
Yeah, I had to get some extremely thin aftermarket speakers to replace my stock ones...they are better, but you couldn't go with just any speaker brand/model you want and fit underneath that dash.

You probably did the right thing. If you were just putting tweets of a component set, you could probably get away with it, but 2.5 or 3.5's you really have to look at the depth that is available. Somewhere I had a thread where I was looking for the proper depth...ended up with some out of production speakers that were classified to fit in the New Beetle to replace the OEMs.

Dash replacement speaker suggestions?

Looks like I didn't post what I ended up going with...I hate when people don't do that. LOL

Default Installing Speakers In Dash

Thanks for the quick responses. I am working on a vert that does not have speakers in the pillar. It looks like (from the pics that I have seen) that getting the top of the dash off is not that difficult.

The guy from Crutchfield told me about the need to use thin speakers. He suggested a set from Infinity, and a piece of hard plastic to make a new mount for it.

This weekend I will have to break out the prybar and take the dash off to see what I have to work with. Thanks again.

I just got done installing 4" speakers in my dash. The cutting was easy and I'm very pleased with how it looks. I dare say better than the dash pods

Did you get the rear panels off? Then just splice the wire to the speaker wires.
