Question Please help. The sound system display freeze after a battery change.

Hi, I recently had a battery change for my new beetle, then I found the sound system stopped working.

I don't see any "SAFE" word in the display, I see just
"FM 88.3 MAN".
I turned the system off and on many times, but still the same.

If anybody knows how to fix it, I would appreciate your information.

There should be a radio code card somewhere in your owners manual, it has a code that needs to be input in the radio. There should be instructions in the owners manual on how to do it.

Since it doesn't say "SAFE", have you tried manually tuning the radio to another channel? There should be a button with arrows on the right and left. Can you push that and see if you can tune to another channel?

Actually come to think of it the last time I had my radio out, it said safe then went to some obscure station, I just pushed one of my preset buttons and everything worked normal.Did'nt have to redo the code and did'nt lose any preset stations.

Thank you for your reply, Oldbugman and hestersu.
I pushed all buttons in the sound system, but nothing worked.

I searched the Internet for long time and found the solution.
WikiAnswers - How do you replace the battery in a 2001 VW Beetle

Here are the steps.
1. Pull fuse #42 (fuse panel can be found on side of dashboard once you open driver's side door).
2. Leave fuse out for MORE THAN 10 seconds
3. Turn on the radio, you will see "SAFE" on the display and then "1000".
4. Then enter the security code

My audio is back to life, yay!
I hope this info helps when somebody enconters the same problem in the future.
