Unhappy monsoon radio "fried"

Took our 2006 NBC (29k) to dealer the other day to have some warranty work on roof and re-install MP3 player port. When picked up the car the radio would not even power up. took the vehicle back to dealer; dealer got radio to work with only 1 FM station, and CD player barely works...cannot search other radio channels and aux does not work in cd mode.

Dealer says the radio is "fried"...says he's replaced several radios in NB's. Said that when re-installing MP3 port, did not disconnect anything with radio... non powering up must have "just happened by coinsidence". Said he would order a radio to be replaced under warranty

Any one else have same experience? will the replaced radio be a new one or a rebuilt one?

Thanks

I would think that if, the DEALER is the one replacing your radio, you will get a brand new radio. I could be wrong, but usually a VW dealership will not do used/ rebuilt parts. I don't even think they will do used/rebuilt parts EVEN if you ask them to use them, for money purposes. If you wanted a rebuilt/used part you would have to go to a private mechanic, or search it out yourself.

Like I said I could be wrong. I HAVE been wrong before, but I am almost 100 percent sure on this. VW is pretty big on not wanting to be liable for anything that goes wrong,... with anything. So, my logic says that they would NOT be willing to take a chance with your car, EVEN if it's just a radio, AND even though it's still under warranty.

I have had my Monsoon do a few wierd things before, but so far it's still kickin. ***knocks on wood***

Actually VWoA has a contract with Delphi to remanufacture radios, so it is quite possible the next "factory" radio you get has been reconditioned. I used to work on these radios from 2000 to 2004.

They did repair work on a MP3 player port? It's possible they may have pinched a wire or not installed the port correctly, and it is interfering with normal radio functions.
