Factory radio pops when turned off

I've got a 2005 beetle coupe that has the factory mp3 CD radio. When ever I turn off the car or the radio I get a loud pop noise. Anyone know what's causing it? I bought the car certified so it is still under warranty, but when i called the dealership they said some parts are covered some aren't. if not I would have to pay $99 for the diagnostic fee.

So did you ask them which parts ARE covered. Kinda a wide open statement from the dealership as far as I'm concerned. I'd get a detailed list to what is actually covered. How many miles on this car?

There should be a mute circuit inside the radio that is supposed to prevent the speakers from popping when turned on or off. I would start with the radio and see if there is any corrosion on the left side bottom of the circuit board where the audio chips are located and near the power connector.

You didn't say if you had a Monsoon System or not.
The Monsoon system has an amplifier along with the radio, but I had no interaction with those as they were a disposable item for VW dealers. It's possible it might be bad also.

the car has about 25k miles. It is the monsoon head unit. I'm bringing it to the dealer on Wednesday to fix the button on the e-brake lever, so I'll see if I can get them to tell me in detail what is covered for the radio.

Just to let anyone else who may have this problem know, I took it to the dealer today and they said it was the amp. It was covered under the warranty.
