Turning up the volume?

Just kidding. Do you have a CD or tape you can play to check if it's the radio reception? Does AM channels work? Check the fuse on the rear?

Isn't there a fuse right beside the connectors? You have to pull out the radio to access it. I'm not really sure what it is for though, but I could guess it's the power to the amplifier part of the radio. So in that case it could cause the problems described.

do you have the original stock radio or is this a different aftermarket radio....becareful...sometimes whne removing the radio it is easiest to disconnect the radio harness....make sure you have your radio code if its the stock vw radio...

otherwise...my guess it that one of the speakers has gone bad and is presenting a short to the amplifier....when this happens the internal amp will go into a protect mode....

my guess is youll have to check your door speakers...find out which one is bad...and replace it...
