Default CD Changer issues.

We just got our NB on Monday and I've been fighting with the CD changer all week.

I loaded the magazine with CD's and it started to play. Changed discs and then it would give an error any time I tried to access disc 1. Dics 6 was a burned CD that it wouldn't recognize at all. So I ejected the magazine and was able to play disc 1 again, but it still would not recognize the burned disc. All of the other discs played fine as well. So I removed the connector from the changer and let it sit for a minute to power cycle it, hooked it back up, and then it started working again. Even played the burned disc.

All was well I thought. Until today. I was listening to the burned disc while sitting at a red light. Then all of a sudden the sound got all staticy and then it stopped. Boop, Error. Now I can't even select CD without getting an error.

So, should I take this thing out and see how far I can throw it after I buy a new one, or is there something I can check to fix it? It's a Monsoon System if that makes a difference.

TIA!

Just went outside on my lunch break and disconnected it again. Reconnected it and now it's working... I'm sure it won't last though and I'm starting to think about how much fun it will be to see how far I can throw it! LOL

I don't have any help for you, but I'll comment. My non-Monsoon did something like that with increasing frequency over the year and a half I used it, but not twice in the same week, yikes! With mine I didn't hear static, just silence, beep, error code. Sometimes it would not read one, some, or all of the discs when it got into its funk. Sometimes it got over it after a single magazine eject/reinsert and sometimes it took a few. I never tried disconnecting the power to it.

I think the burned CD thing is irrelevant, all my CDs are burned (yours would be too if you rode with my former carpool mate...my originals no longer leave the house).

I always wondered if the changer just needed a cleaning or something--the problem was intermittent and, on the non-Monsoon at least, the cover for the magazine slot isn't really(or at all) a tight seal so it's not hard to imagine debris getting inside--but I never tried it. Like I said, at its worst it was still working fine for weeks between incidents at the end.

Ultimately I replaced my head unit with an aftermarket with USB input because 6 discs just wasn't enough any more. I wish you luck!

I had the same problem. Went through 4 changers under warranty. My local dealer finally found that a ground wire from the changer was loose and reconnected it securely. I have had the same changer for the last 6 years work flawlessly.

I had the same thing in my first nbc (the original cd changer in the armrest)
I just had to eject any CD and put it back, and it get back to work
then it does the error thing back after a while and it's a pain in the a** redoing the same thing sometimes I had to stop
