Default K line issue with aftermarket stereo?

Hi All,

Just wondered if someone could clarify something for me, I installed an aftermarket stereo with the kit from ebay below

VW Volkswagen New Beetle Car Radio Dash kit w/Harness - eBay Dashboard Installation Kits, Installation Products, Car Electronics, Electronics. (end time 18-Oct-09 09:24:48 AEDST)

Everything was fine until the car went to the menders and they tried to pull the codes but couldn't - they said that it was the after market wiring harness and printed out the instructions from Ross Tech for me below.

Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Afterrmarket Radio Problem

The thing is that the Ross tech instructions say that that pin 3 should be looped back into the harness (and the mine has pin 3 looped to pin 5) is that right? I can't figure out what looped back to the harness means?

Obviously there is a problem with the harness (and I should email the guy that I bought it from above) but I would like to figure what this is!

Cheers, paul

Looped back into the harness in this case means the other end of the wire shouldn't connect to anything.

Well that's what they did - but that doesn't sound like "looped back into the harness" you would think that that blue looped wire shouldn't be there in the first place, or it would be cut in two, and that's what Ross tech would advise you to do.

As far as I can see "looped back into the harness" is what that blue wire is?!?

He Ross-tech instructions refer to the K-line wire coming from the harness into the plug, this needs to be removed from the plug (pin 3?) and taped back to the wiring harness to isolate it from the stereo plug.

The harm though is caused by the loop of wire so cutting that and taping both ends (One carries 12V and the other will be the K-line signal) so both need to be safely isolated if you go that route.
