Default want to change head unit in a 2000 NB

hi. i just got my NB a couple of weeks ago and id really like to change the radio (factory unit) to an aftermarket one that plays, charge and lets me control my ipod. what is the best unit out there available?

a friend of mine here suggested Blaupunkt since according to him it would have the least hassle in installation. if this is true, any suggestions to a particular blaupunkt model?

it's a 2000 NB from Japan.
thanks!

being from japan im not sure if anything would be different.

but i know Blaupunkt isnt what it was a few years ago.

i personally have a kenwood kdc hd942u
it has a five line display so it makes seaching the ipod or even a flash drive very easy. the knobs take a bit getting used to. but it lights up blue so it matches the interior lights decently well. one other thing i love about it is a time correction feature. since the back speakers are so close to the front seat and the front speakers and tweeters are so seperated i find this feature made a huge improvement in sound over an eclipse radio. the hd fm radio reception is sometimes spotty. but otherwise i love the radio. u do need to buy a special ipod cable thou, not that its expensive. but its not included.

ill post a link of that thru an online retailer and a few other decent options...however the only one with built in time correction will be the kenwood.

Kenwood KDC-HD942U (kdchd942u) All In-Dash Car Stereo Receivers Car Stereo Receivers and Head Units Car Audio Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix

Pioneer Premier DEH-P710BT (dehp710bt) All In-Dash Car Stereo Receivers Car Stereo Receivers and Head Units Car Audio Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix (premier line adds warantee time and includes all the cables...so on here its cheaper to buy than the pioneer 7100 and the additional cables)

Eclipse CD3200 All In-Dash Car Stereo Receivers Car Stereo Receivers and Head Units Car Audio Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix

im not very familiar with alpine product line...i know for many capabilities you need extra modules and such...so ive never gotten that interested. but as for searhing the ipod they are great. some are even mech-less...meaning no cd player. which is nice...(also some people complain that while the products are great sometimes the quality of build is poor)
but they def lead the way in ipod connectivity.

good luck

I have had two Pioneer decks, one Alpine, and one Clarion. I really love the Pioneer decks. I'm hoping to get a third for my Beetle. My two cents.

The one already linked is really nice.

im not sure if you can still use the factory cd player...i dont think it will interface.

whether on not you have the traditional system or the monsoon it will properly hook up....just get some one experienced to tune it all up for you..

I don't use an iPod but I have a Sony headunit and it has a front auxiliary input. I love it. It was pretty cheap but still is nice. And the colors on it match the interior lighting of the car (red and blue!)
