OK! I changed the battery and of course needed the code to activate the radio...a real prize among the audiophiles in the soft under-belly of suburbia. Those "tuner" kids would give their allowance for one.
I followed the Forum instructions, and read the 4 digit secret code next to the paint code (for Black?) then as per more forum instruction...Thank you: "1: turn on the radio, "SAFE" will appear in the display 2: After 3 seconds, the number 1000 will appear in the display. 3: Use the radio station preset buttons 1 to 4 to enter the code number found on you Radio Card. Use preset button 1 to enter the first digit in the code number. Use button 2 to enter the second digit, etc. The value range for each of the 4 digits is "0...9". The digit will increase by 1 each time you tap the preset button. The number returns to "0" after "9". 4: After you finish entering the code, press the right side (">") of the SEEK button 10 for longer than 2 seconds until you hear an audible signal. 5: if you`ve entered the code number correctly, "LSM" will appear in the display. 6: Now you are ready to use the radio again. My experience with dead battery 2 years ago, I took out old battery, had it checked and bought Sears Diehard International battery. Put it in and I did not have to go thru the re-enter the code, everything was normal when I connected the battery. GOOD LUCK" So what happens is, upon pressing > on the seek button, I hear the beep and one second of radio then the SAFE message re-appears? A few seconds later it reads 1000, but with a 1 preceeding it. I re-entered the code and the same happens, except the 1 turns into a 2? On the third try it reads SAFE and I wait an hour to clear. Then like faithful hubby on my anniversary...expect a different result! Please help! Mark. |

Whoa. If this is true I learned something new today. The radio code is next to the paint code? Where? On the sticker beside the spare tire?

Which would explain why the OP's radio didn't recognize it... ![]() |

If the OEM radio was replaced/exchanged then the code will be different. When I worked on the Delphi radios, we had to put a sticker on top of the radio with the code needed to unlock it, and the dealer was supposed to install the sticker over the original code or some where near it. The code is based on the radio serial number on the right side of the unit.
