ull need vw radio keys, they slide in the small slots on the lower sides of the radio, and open the clip that holds the radio in.
now. theres a few things to keep in mind.
1. if you arent sure how to wire this then you need to research some threads...if you take out your radio and for any reason need to put the original back in, you need to have the radio code.
2. many times, especially in earlier models of the new beetle, the wire harnesses are very hard to pull out with the radio, ive seen them not pull out of the dash enough to work on, and ive seen them so tight that the clips to the back of the stock radio break. u may not have any issue at all...but sometimes it can be a huge pain, more than ive seen with any other car. also make sure you use a metra wiring kit and ant adapter.
3. alot of time pioneers are fairly deep with the heat sinc on back, and to get the wiring back in the dash with the radio, you have to either fuss with the wiring, (which can disconnect the vent open/close arm), or cut out the piece of plastic in the back of the dash that was used to support the stock radio. which will give you some extra room. either way, be carful and patient. and have fun.
newer models have a k line issue, but im pretty sure you shouldnt have this worry. im sure someone else will comment on it.
